Safe Cars Act: Federal Agencies Prohibited from Using or Selling Recalled Vehicles

This act aims to enhance public safety by prohibiting federal agencies from selling, leasing, or using motor vehicles with safety defects or non-compliance issues. This means citizens purchasing or leasing vehicles from the federal government will be better protected from unsafe cars, and federal employees will operate safer vehicles.
Key points
Federal agencies cannot sell or lease recalled vehicles unless the defect is remedied or the buyer/lessee is notified before the transaction.
If a federal agency leases a vehicle that is later recalled, it must notify the lessee and encourage them to remedy the defect and prevent its use.
Federal agencies must make reasonable efforts to prevent their employees from using recalled vehicles, unless deemed critical for a mission and risks are outweighed.
