Bill to End Federal Funding for National Public Radio and Radio Content Acquisition.

This bill completely prohibits the use of Federal funds, including grants and direct appropriations, to support National Public Radio (NPR) and to acquire radio content for public broadcast stations. If enacted, public radio stations would need to secure alternative funding sources for programming and operations, potentially affecting the scope and availability of noncommercial educational content for listeners. The prohibition does not apply to content acquisition by the U.S. Agency for Global Media or the Defense Media Activity.
Key points
Federal grants, loans, and direct appropriations can no longer be provided to organizations performing the functions of NPR.
Public broadcast stations are barred from using Federal money to purchase or acquire radio programs, including content distributed online.
The legislation amends existing law to remove funding streams specifically designated for public radio content acquisition.
