Federal Funding Access for End-of-Life Medical Aid

This bill provides an exception to federal funding restrictions for medical aid-in-dying (MAID) programs in states where MAID is legal. Consequently, information, referrals, and medical care consistent with such programs will no longer be subject to the prohibitions of the Assisted Suicide Funding Restriction Act of 1997. The change aims to allow access to these services for individuals relying on federal funds, such as veterans, in jurisdictions that authorize this practice.
Key points
Removes the prohibition on using federal funds for information, referrals, and care related to medical aid-in-dying (MAID) in states that permit it.
Addresses veterans and other populations whose access to MAID was restricted by the 1997 Act.
The exception to the restrictions takes effect on January 1, 2025, in states with applicable laws.
