Harsher penalties for crimes committed while masked or in disguise

This law introduces new, stricter prison sentences for individuals who commit crimes while masked or disguised. The primary goal is to protect citizens from intimidation and the violation of their constitutional rights by people concealing their identity. Additionally, destroying property in federal jurisdiction while disguised will result in a mandatory two-year extension of the sentence.
Key points
New federal offense: Injuring, threatening, or intimidating a person in the exercise of their constitutional rights while wearing a mask is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Mandatory sentence enhancement: Individuals destroying buildings or property in federal areas while disguised will receive an additional 2 years of imprisonment.
These provisions do not apply to law enforcement officers lawfully carrying out their official duties.
