Extending Telehealth for Medicare Hospice Recertification Until 2026.

This law extends the temporary ability to use telehealth for required recertification visits for Medicare hospice patients until the end of 2026. This change provides greater convenience and reduces the burden on patients receiving end-of-life care by allowing necessary administrative checks to be done remotely. Certain restrictions apply to providers under enhanced scrutiny or in areas with enrollment moratoriums.
Key points
The flexibility allowing remote recertification of hospice eligibility via telehealth is extended for two years, until December 31, 2026.
This makes it easier for patients receiving hospice care to meet administrative requirements without mandatory in-person doctor visits.
New billing codes must be used to track when recertification encounters are conducted using telehealth.
