Extended Deadline for Veterans to Report Emergency Care Outside VA Facilities.

This law extends the minimum time veterans have to report and seek authorization for emergency medical care received at non-VA hospitals. Under the new rules, veterans or their representatives must have at least 72 hours after discharge from the facility to submit the application. This change reduces administrative pressure and helps ensure veterans' emergency treatment costs are covered.
Key points
Veterans receiving emergency care outside the VA system now have more time to apply for coverage of treatment costs.
The minimum deadline for reporting and authorizing treatment cannot be earlier than 72 hours following discharge from the hospital.
