Withdrawal of New Energy Efficiency Standards for Federally Financed Housing

This bill aims to immediately withdraw the recently adopted, stricter energy efficiency standards for homes financed by federal agencies (HUD and USDA). This means that construction supported by these agencies, as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), will revert to meeting previous, less stringent requirements. For citizens, this could translate into lower initial construction costs for new homes, but potentially higher energy bills in the future, as buildings will not be required to be as energy efficient.
Key points
Withdrawal of the new, stricter energy efficiency standards for housing financed by HUD and USDA, reverting to the previous, less rigorous requirements.
Prohibition on HUD, USDA, VA, and FHFA from using federal funds to implement or enforce the withdrawn or substantially similar energy efficiency standards.
Changes to state standards consideration: new federal energy efficiency standards can only be adopted if at least 26 states have already adopted similar or stricter codes.
