Limiting TRICARE Copayments for Mental and Behavioral Health Visits.

This law aims to reduce the financial burden for military members, veterans, and their families seeking mental health care through TRICARE. Copayments for outpatient mental or behavioral health visits will be capped at the same rate as primary care visits, regardless of whether the provider is a specialist. This change is intended to improve access to essential behavioral and mental health services for beneficiaries.
Key points
Reduced Mental Health Costs: Copayments for mental and behavioral health outpatient visits under TRICARE cannot exceed the cost of a standard primary care visit.
Improved Access: The change applies to all individuals enrolled in TRICARE, regardless of duty status, making behavioral health care more accessible.
Temporary Cost Freeze: For one year, copayments for other specialty care services under TRICARE cannot be raised above the Fiscal Year 2021 level.
