Greater D.C. Autonomy: Ending Federal Financial Oversight by GAO.

This Act removes the federal oversight of the District of Columbia government's finances and programs previously conducted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). This grants D.C. local authorities greater control over their audits and performance reporting, moving towards fuller self-governance. Consequently, accountability for public financial management now rests more directly with locally elected D.C. officials.
Key points
The federal GAO loses its authority to conduct annual audits of the D.C. government's finances and programs.
D.C. authorities are no longer required to report to the GAO or include compliance status with federal audit recommendations in their budget.
Increases D.C.'s local self-rule by eliminating requirements for federal evaluation of financial and performance plans.
