Increased Flexibility for Ranchers on Federal Lands Grazing Management.
This Act establishes the Operational Flexibility Grazing Management Program, allowing ranchers who use federal lands to quickly adjust their grazing practices. This flexibility enables permit holders to respond rapidly to changing conditions like drought, fire, or market shifts by modifying grazing seasons or stocking levels, aiming to improve the long-term ecological health of the land. The program provides greater stability for agricultural operations while ensuring environmental monitoring.
Key points
Ranchers gain the ability to quickly adjust grazing terms (e.g., start/end dates, stocking levels) in response to significant changes in weather, forage production, or market conditions.
The program requires the Bureau of Land Management to develop flexible grazing alternatives when renewing permits, in consultation with permittees and affected parties.
Using this operational flexibility cannot result in the termination or non-renewal of an existing grazing permit or lease.
