Veterans' Mental Health: Keeping Your DoD Therapist During Transition.

This law allows service members transitioning to veteran status to continue receiving mental health treatment from their current Department of Defense (DoD) provider during the transition period. This ensures continuity of care for individuals diagnosed with mental health conditions, reducing disruption during a critical time. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will cover the costs of this continued care.
Key points
Allows transitioning service members to retain their existing DoD mental health provider instead of immediately switching to a VA provider.
Guarantees the same priority level for treatment as active military members at the DoD facility.
Requires seamless transfer of medical records to the VA system once the full transition is complete.
