Education Assistance Program for Public Safety Officers and Their Families.

This law establishes a new financial aid program for higher education, benefiting public safety officers (police, fire, etc.) and their children. The goal is to improve recruitment and retention by encouraging experienced officers to commit to long-term service. Officers must serve at least 8 years and commit to an additional 4 years of service to qualify for the benefit.
Key points
Experienced officers (minimum 8 years of service with one employer) can receive up to 45 months of financial assistance for higher education.
Officers can transfer all or part of this educational benefit to their child (who must use it before age 27).
The program prioritizes applicants based on financial need using a sliding scale mechanism.
