Better Weather Forecasts: Validating Natural Disaster Risk Data.

This law establishes the Federal Commission on Weather Risk Data and Modeling to set quality standards and verify all weather data purchased by federal agencies from the private sector. The goal is to ensure the government uses the most accurate and reliable information for infrastructure planning, disaster response, and risk management. Ultimately, this should lead to better protection of citizens' lives and property against extreme weather events.
Key points
A new federal commission is established to control the quality of weather risk data (e.g., floods, fires, tornadoes) used by the government.
Within two years, federal agencies will only be allowed to use weather models and data that have been verified and approved by the Commission as accurate and reliable.
Improved data quality is intended to help state and local governments, as well as the insurance and banking sectors, better prepare for natural disasters.
