IRS Integrity: Tax Delinquents Ineligible for Employment at Internal Revenue Service.

This new law aims to boost public trust in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by ensuring that its employees do not have serious, unpaid tax debts. It mandates that individuals responsible for enforcing tax law must themselves be compliant. While this does not change your personal tax obligations, it establishes higher integrity standards for IRS staff.
Key points
Individuals with serious, unpaid tax debts (where a public lien has been filed) are ineligible to be hired or continue working for the IRS.
The IRS must annually verify all current employees and screen new applicants to ensure they are current on their tax obligations.
Exceptions apply to debts being paid on time under an agreement or debts currently under appeal or legal review.
