Restitution for Unlawful Entry: Courts Can Order Financial Penalties.

This bill grants federal courts new authority to impose financial penalties, known as restitution, on individuals who unlawfully enter or are present in the United States. This means that in addition to standard legal consequences, these individuals could be ordered to pay compensation. The goal is to expand the scope of offenses for which restitution can be mandated.
Key points
Federal courts are authorized to order restitution specifically for the act of unlawful entry and presence in the U.S.
The law expands the list of offenses eligible for restitution orders to include unauthorized entry (Section 1325(a) of Title 8 U.S. Code).
