Easier Emergency Reimbursement for Newly Enrolled Veterans.

This law removes the requirement for prior VA care for veterans seeking reimbursement for emergency treatment received outside the VA system. This change applies specifically to treatment furnished within the first 60 days after a veteran enrolls in the VA health care system. The goal is to ensure financial security for new veterans during medical emergencies, regardless of whether they have had a chance to use VA facilities yet.
Key points
Newly enrolled veterans can get reimbursed for non-VA emergency care if it occurs within the first 60 days of enrollment.
The requirement for prior VA service use is waived for emergencies during this 60-day period, improving access to benefits.
These changes will take effect one year after the law is enacted.
