Military Student Loan Forgiveness: Active Duty Deferment Counts as Payments.

This bill simplifies the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) process for active duty military members. Months when federal student loan payments were paused (deferred or in forbearance) due to active duty service will automatically count toward the required 120 payments. The legislation also mandates data matching to automate employment certification for service members.
Key points
Periods of student loan deferment or forbearance due to active military service will be automatically counted as qualifying payments for PSLF.
The Departments of Defense and Education must automatically certify military employment periods for loan forgiveness, removing the need for service members to submit paperwork.
