Banning AI Deepfakes and Fraud in Political Campaigns.

This law updates election rules to explicitly forbid the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create fake advertisements, messages, or fundraising requests that falsely claim to represent political candidates or committees. These changes aim to protect citizens from sophisticated AI-driven political scams and disinformation, increasing accountability for misleading the public. Citizens gain greater assurance that political communications are authentic.
Key points
Explicitly bans the use of AI-generated content (deepfakes) for fraudulently misrepresenting campaign authority or soliciting funds.
Expands who can be held responsible for political fraud: now any person, not just candidates or their staff, can be penalized for misrepresentation in campaigns.
