Disaster Aid Expansion: Help for Neighboring Areas and Cumulative Damage.

This law expands eligibility for federal disaster assistance, making it easier for citizens to access FEMA funds. It covers areas adjacent to officially declared disaster zones, even if those areas were not included in the initial declaration. Furthermore, aid will now be available for regions affected by a series of smaller catastrophes over a year whose cumulative damage is significant.
Key points
Residents in areas adjacent to disaster zones can now apply for FEMA individual and public assistance, even if their region was not formally declared a disaster area.
The definition of "major disaster" is expanded to include cumulative damage resulting from two or more smaller natural catastrophes within a 12-month period.
This change increases the likelihood of obtaining federal financial support for rebuilding and mitigation for communities facing repeated, individually minor events.
