Free Contraception Access for Servicemembers and Military Families (TRICARE)
This law ensures full, cost-free access to all approved methods of contraception, related care, and sterilization procedures for Armed Forces members and their families covered by TRICARE. It eliminates all out-of-pocket costs (copayments) for contraceptives, whether obtained through military facilities, retail pharmacies, or mail-order programs. Additionally, the act mandates family planning education for servicemembers and guarantees immediate contraceptive assistance for sexual assault survivors at military medical facilities.
Key points
No More Costs: Servicemembers and their dependents will face zero cost-sharing for prescription contraceptives, contraceptive care (like IUD insertion/removal), and sterilization procedures under TRICARE.
Survivor Support: Military medical facilities must immediately provide comprehensive information and access to emergency contraception to sexual assault survivors upon request.
Mandatory Education: New, standardized education programs on family planning, contraception methods, and their impact on military readiness will be established for all servicemembers.
