Stricter Penalties for Importing and Manufacturing Synthetic Drug Analogues.

This law establishes a new classification (Schedule A) for dangerous synthetic chemicals imported into the US that mimic existing controlled substances. It imposes significantly harsher prison sentences (up to 20 years, or life if death results) and higher fines for the illegal import and distribution of these substances. The goal is to quickly control new, illegal synthetic substances before they become widely available.
Key points
Creation of a new 'Schedule A' specifically targeting imported synthetic substances chemically similar to existing controlled drugs.
Severe penalties introduced: up to 20 years imprisonment for illegal import of Schedule A substances, and life imprisonment if the substance causes death or serious injury.
The Attorney General can temporarily schedule these substances for up to five years to quickly prevent abuse.
Sentencing review is allowed if a substance is later removed from Schedule A or moved to a schedule with lower penalties.
