Easier Access to Opioid Addiction Treatment Medication (Buprenorphine)

This law temporarily removes buprenorphine, a medication for opioid use disorder, from the Suspicious Orders Report System. The goal is to make it easier for pharmacies to stock the drug, thereby increasing patient access to vital addiction treatment. This change remains in effect until 270 days after the opioid public health emergency expires.
Key points
Buprenorphine, used for opioid addiction, is temporarily exempt from strict pharmacy reporting requirements.
This logistical change is expected to help patients fill their prescriptions more quickly and easily at pharmacies.
The government will later assess whether this exemption should become permanent after the public health emergency ends.
