Faster Judicial Review for Elderly and Terminally Ill Inmate Release

This bill amends the Elderly Home Detention Pilot Program to allow courts to reduce a sentence and substitute it with home detention for eligible elderly or terminally ill offenders. It reduces the required time served for eligible elderly nonviolent offenders from two-thirds to one-half of their sentence. Additionally, the bill permits inmates to petition a court if the Bureau of Prisons fails to act on their request for home detention or compassionate release within 30 days.
