Extending Deadline for Native American Self-Determination Regulations Implementation.

This Act extends the time the Secretary of the Interior has to finalize key regulations related to the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. This means that new rules designed to help tribes manage their own educational and assistance programs will be published and implemented later than originally scheduled. The change provides additional time to prepare and refine these important regulations.
Key points
Deadlines for issuing implementing regulations concerning Native American self-determination have been extended (from 21 to 38 months and from 30 to 50 months).
This delays the effective date of new rules intended to facilitate tribes taking control of federal education and assistance programs.
