NOAA Weather Radio Upgrade: Better Coverage and More Precise Emergency Alerts.

This Act mandates and funds the modernization of the NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards network (NWR) to enhance public safety. Citizens will benefit from more reliable and precise emergency warnings, including the ability to receive alerts specific to only parts of a county, and expanded coverage in rural and underserved areas. The goal is to ensure the system remains operational even during major outages or disasters.
Key points
Expanded coverage for weather and emergency alerts, especially in rural areas, remote locations, and National Parks lacking reliable cellular service.
Implementation of more precise alerts (partial county notifications) to reduce unnecessary warnings and improve response effectiveness.
Increased system reliability through infrastructure upgrades and the development of backup plans (like satellite capability) to maintain service during outages.
