Federal Agencies Must Immediately Restore Pre-Pandemic Office Work Levels.
This law mandates that federal Executive agencies immediately revert to their telework policies and office staffing levels from before the pandemic. Agencies are prohibited from expanding remote work again until they prove to Congress that such expansion will substantially improve customer service, increase efficiency, and save taxpayer money. Citizens may see an improvement in government service access if remote work previously impacted customer service negatively.
Key points
Federal agencies must reinstate telework policies and staffing levels that were in effect on December 31, 2019, within 30 days.
Agencies must conduct a study on the impacts of expanded telework, including effects on customer service and costs related to unused office space.
Any future plan to expand remote work must be certified as having a substantial positive effect on agency performance and cost reduction for taxpayers.
