Expanding Health Care Options for Veterans with Service-Connected Disabilities.
This Act grants veterans with service-connected disabilities the option to enroll in the TRICARE Select health insurance program. This provides eligible veterans with an alternative to the VA health care system, increasing flexibility in medical access outside the VA network. However, veterans must choose between VA care and TRICARE; concurrent enrollment in both systems is strictly prohibited.
Key points
Veterans with service-connected disabilities gain eligibility to enroll in the TRICARE Select health plan.
Enrolling in TRICARE requires the veteran to forgo concurrent enrollment in the VA patient health care system.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will reimburse the Department of Defense for the costs associated with these new TRICARE enrollments.
Dependents of these veterans are not automatically eligible for TRICARE solely based on the veteran's enrollment under this Act.
