Healthy Families Act: Guaranteeing Paid Time Off for Sickness and Family Care

This Act guarantees most employees the right to earn paid sick time, accumulating at least 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 56 hours annually. This time can be used for the employee's own health needs, caring for sick family members, or addressing issues related to domestic violence or sexual assault. Employers are prohibited from penalizing workers for exercising this right, ensuring financial stability during necessary absences.
Key points
Mandatory Paid Leave: Employees earn up to 56 hours (7 days) of paid sick time per year for health purposes.
Broad Family Coverage: Leave covers the employee's illness, medical appointments, and care for children, parents, spouses, domestic partners, and close family equivalents.
Support for Victims: Time can be used to seek medical, legal, counseling, or relocation assistance related to domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
Protection Against Retaliation: Employers cannot discriminate against or fire employees for using their accrued paid sick time.
