Settlement of Miami Tribe land disputes in Illinois.

This law aims to resolve a historical land dispute in Illinois stemming from the 1805 Treaty by allowing the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma to file one specific claim in federal court. Importantly for citizens, liability for this claim rests solely with the United States government, protecting private landowners and other entities from potential lawsuits. After one year or upon filing the claim, all other historical claims by the Tribe to these lands will be legally extinguished.
Key points
The U.S. government assumes full financial liability for the Miami Tribe's land claim in Illinois, protecting private citizens.
The Miami Tribe has 1 year to file the claim in federal court, regardless of the statute of limitations.
All other historical claims by the Miami Tribe to title arising under the Treaty of Grouseland will be permanently extinguished.
