Malheur Land Management: Grazing Flexibility, Wilderness Protection, and Tribal Trust.

This Act establishes a new grazing management program in Malheur County, Oregon, granting local ranchers increased flexibility to adjust livestock grazing based on weather and ecological conditions to improve the health of Federal lands. Crucially, it designates over 1.1 million acres of Federal land as protected Wilderness Areas and transfers significant acreage into trust for the benefit of the Burns Paiute Tribe.
Key points
Ranchers gain operational flexibility in grazing management on Federal lands to quickly respond to drought or changing weather conditions, subject to strict ecological monitoring plans.
Over 1.1 million acres of Federal land in Malheur County are designated as new, highly protected Wilderness Areas, restricting development and exploitation.
A local stakeholder group (Malheur C.E.O. Group), including Tribes and ranchers, is created to propose and fund local ecological restoration and development projects.
More than 30,000 acres of Federal land are transferred into trust for the Burns Paiute Tribe, expanding their reservation and co-stewardship rights over certain areas.
