Routine Mental Health Check-ups for Military Children in DODEA Schools Pilot.

This Act establishes a four-year pilot program providing routine mental health screenings for students in selected Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) schools. The goal is to proactively identify conditions like depression or anxiety and ensure a fast track from diagnosis to treatment and therapy for military children. Parents retain the right to opt their child out of the screenings and must give consent for external referrals.
Key points
Students in participating DODEA schools will receive routine, biannual or semesterly mental health check-ups conducted by military health providers.
The program creates a streamlined process for referring students with identified needs to community behavioral health clinics for further care.
Parents must be notified and have the option to opt their child out of the check-ups and must give informed consent for external referrals.
