Overtime Pay Rights for Farm Workers: Phased Introduction of Standard Workweek

This law gradually extends federal overtime pay protections to agricultural workers, who were previously excluded from these rights. Workers will receive 1.5 times their regular rate for hours worked above weekly thresholds, significantly boosting potential earnings and aligning their rights with most other US employees. The full transition to a standard 40-hour workweek will be completed by 2027 for large farms and 2030 for smaller ones.
Key points
Agricultural workers gain the right to overtime pay (1.5x regular rate) for working beyond specified weekly hours.
The maximum hours before overtime kicks in will gradually decrease until the standard 40-hour workweek is established.
Several existing legal exemptions that allowed agricultural employers to bypass minimum wage and overtime rules are eliminated.
