LA28 Olympic Commemorative Coins: Funding Youth Sports and Games

This law authorizes the Treasury to mint and sell special commemorative coins for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. Citizens purchasing these collectible coins will pay a mandatory surcharge (up to $50 per coin) which directly funds the LA28 Games, legacy programs, and the promotion of youth sports across the United States. The program is designed to operate at no net cost to the Federal Government.
Key points
New gold, silver, and clad commemorative coins will be issued starting January 1, 2028, serving as legal tender but primarily aimed at collectors.
A mandatory surcharge is added to the sale price of each coin, with proceeds dedicated to supporting the LA28 Games organization and youth sports initiatives.
The Treasury can increase the number of minted coins if public demand exceeds initial limits.
