Permanent Residency and New Visas for Afghan Allies

This Act establishes a pathway to Lawful Permanent Resident status (Green Card) for thousands of Afghan nationals who supported the US mission and were admitted to the country after July 2021. It also introduces new categories of Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) for at-risk allies and their relatives. A critical component is the requirement for rigorous, in-person security vetting, including interviews and biometric screening, for all applicants to ensure national security.
Key points
Allows Afghan nationals who served the US and are already in the country to apply for a Green Card without having to leave the United States.
Mandates a rigorous, in-person interview and security vetting (biometric and biographic) for every applicant, regardless of prior screenings.
Creates a new pool of 34,500 Special Immigrant Visas for specific groups of at-risk Afghan allies (e.g., special forces, intelligence personnel) and for parents and siblings of US service members.
Waives application fees for adjustment of status and initial employment authorization documents.
