Ski Area Fees Stay Local: Funding Infrastructure and Safety Improvements.

This law allows local National Forest units to retain most of the fees collected from ski area permits, rather than sending them to the central treasury. These funds must be used directly to improve infrastructure, safety, and visitor services in and around ski areas and recreational sites. Citizens can expect better access roads, parking facilities, faster search and rescue operations, and modernization of the recreational areas themselves.
Key points
Most fees (80%) collected from ski areas operating on federal lands will be retained by the local National Forest units where they were generated.
The retained money must be spent on repairing roads, trails, parking lots, enhancing safety (e.g., avalanche information, search and rescue), and supporting administration and wildfire planning.
The goal is to accelerate the modernization of recreational infrastructure and improve the quality of services for tourists using ski areas.
