Protecting Families and Expanding Access to Substance Use Disorder Treatment

This Act protects pregnant and postpartum parents from mandatory substance testing and automatic child separation if they are taking prescribed medication, including medication for addiction treatment. It allocates $500 million to expand mental health and addiction services, making them required primary services at local community health centers. Furthermore, it establishes a federal task force and provides dedicated funding for comprehensive support for children in Head Start programs whose families are affected by substance use disorders.
