Standardizing Digital Access to Federal Waterway Recreation Rules and Fishing Restrictions
This Act mandates federal agencies managing public waters (like the National Park Service and Forest Service) to create a single, standardized digital database of rules. This means recreational users, boaters, and anglers will easily find online information about where and when they can use waterways, specific boat restrictions (like horsepower or no-wake zones), and current fishing regulations. The goal is to simplify trip planning and ensure compliance by standardizing and publishing geospatial data.
Key points
All rules for using federal waterways (closures, speed limits, permitted watercraft types) will be consolidated and published in one online location using digital maps.
Anglers will gain access to digital maps detailing closed zones, equipment restrictions, and catch-and-release requirements, with updates provided in real-time as changes occur.
Access information, such as boat ramp locations, portages, and depth charts, will be made publicly available online and updated at least annually.
The law requires agencies to develop a process for the public to submit questions or comments regarding the published data.
