Faster Flood Insurance Advance Payments: Pilot Program Using Remote Technology.

This act establishes a one-year pilot program to speed up and increase initial flood insurance claim payments using modern technology like remote sensing. This allows FEMA to quickly assess damage and provide funds to affected policyholders sooner after a disaster. Crucially, the law also permits the forgiveness of potential overpayments resulting from these rapid advance payments, protecting citizens from unexpected debt.
Key points
Quicker funds after flooding: FEMA will use technology (like satellite imagery) to quickly assess damage, aiming to speed up advance payments for home repairs.
Increased advance amounts: The pilot program seeks to increase the amount of initial payments to better assist policyholders with immediate cleanup and repairs.
Overpayment forgiveness: If the rapid advance payment is higher than the final claim amount, FEMA may waive the requirement for the policyholder to repay the difference.
