Protecting Personal Data in International Shipments and Increasing Trade Transparency

This law mandates the removal of sensitive personal data, such as Social Security numbers, passports, private addresses, and contacts, from publicly available shipping documents (manifests). This aims to enhance privacy protection for private individuals receiving international shipments. Concurrently, it expands the scope of commercial information available to the public, increasing transparency in the international supply chain.
Key points
Privacy Protection: Sensitive personal data of end-consumers, including SSNs, passport numbers, dates of birth, private phones, and residential addresses, must be removed from public shipping manifests.
Trade Transparency: Manifests must now include more cargo details, such as the Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification code, the country of production, and the last country of transport.
Business Data Remains Public: Names, addresses, and identification numbers of businesses involved in trade remain publicly accessible, ensuring commercial transparency.
