Pilot program: hiring veterans for federal land management agencies.
This Act establishes a five-year pilot program to help veterans find employment in federal land management agencies, such as the Forest Service and National Park Service. The program aims to recruit veterans for supervisory and non-supervisory positions, often allowing for noncompetitive appointments if they demonstrate the necessary skills. Veterans gain a new, simplified career path in the public sector, particularly in fields related to environmental protection and green land management.
Key points
Establishment of a 5-year pilot program facilitating the employment of veterans in five key federal land management agencies (e.g., Forest Service, National Park Service).
Veterans may be appointed to positions in over 20 specialized fields (e.g., forest engineering, firefighting, ecology, hydrology) through a noncompetitive process.
The program includes skills testing for veterans and allows for the waiver of a recognized postsecondary credential requirement if the veteran demonstrates necessary abilities.
Veterans who do not pass the initial test will be referred to training programs and can retake the test to qualify for employment.
