Increased Pay for Correctional Officers: Changing Locality Pay Rules.

This Act aims to increase the compensation for Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) employees whose duty stations are located in the 'Rest of U.S.' pay locality. The change mandates that their locality pay will be calculated based on the nearest higher-paying locality area, directly boosting their income. For citizens, this means potentially improved working conditions for correctional staff, which could enhance security and stability within federal correctional facilities.
Key points
Pay Raises: BOP employees in 'Rest of U.S.' areas will receive higher locality pay supplements.
New Pay Calculation Method: Workstations in 'Rest of U.S.' will be treated as if they are located in the nearest other pay locality with the highest comparability payment, provided it is within 200 miles.
Higher Wage Rates: Prevailing rate employees of the BOP will also receive higher wage schedules and rates based on the nearest higher-paying wage area.
Effective Date: The changes will take effect 180 days after the date of enactment.
