Increased Government Spending Transparency: Ending Secret Agreements
This law forces federal agencies to disclose details about special agreements (known as OTAs) that were previously poorly monitored, thereby increasing spending transparency. Citizens will gain access to more complete data on USAspending.gov, allowing them to better track how taxpayer money is spent. The government will also be required to report annually on how much money was spent without public disclosure, along with the reasons.
Key points
All special government agreements (OTAs), often used for research and prototypes, must now be reported and visible on the public USAspending.gov website.
The government must publish an annual report disclosing the total amount of federal spending that has not been made public (e.g., due to national security or classification).
New requirements are introduced to ensure that spending data published by federal agencies is complete, accurate, and verifiable.
