Firefighter PFAS Compensation: New Fund and Excise Taxes on Manufacturers.

This Act establishes a compensation program and a Trust Fund to provide financial relief for firefighters suffering from illnesses linked to PFAS exposure during their service. Eligible firefighters with at least two years of service and a diagnosed PFAS-related condition can claim compensation through a simplified, no-fault process. The program is funded by new 10% excise taxes levied on manufacturers of PFAS products and on certain non-personal injury litigation awards related to PFAS.
Key points
Creates a "no-fault" compensation program for firefighters diagnosed with PFAS-related health conditions, such as specific cancers and thyroid diseases.
Compensation amounts range from $50,000 to $250,000 (base award) and are multiplied based on the firefighter's years of service (up to 4x).
The program is financed by new 10% excise taxes on manufacturers and importers of products containing PFAS, including firefighting gear.
Compensation payments are protected from claims by the deceased firefighter's creditors.
