Free Mental Health and Addiction Care During Pregnancy and Postpartum.

This law eliminates out-of-pocket costs, such as copayments or deductibles, for mental health and substance use disorder services for pregnant individuals and for one year following childbirth. Group and individual health plans must cover these in-network services entirely, removing financial barriers to accessing critical care during this vulnerable period.
Key points
Zero Cost-Sharing: Insurers cannot charge any out-of-pocket costs (copays, deductibles) for mental health and substance use disorder services from the diagnosis of pregnancy through the one-year postpartum period.
Continuity of Treatment: Ensures that patients who started mental health or addiction treatment during pregnancy can continue seeing the same in-network provider for up to one year postpartum.
Scope of Services: The zero cost-sharing rule also applies to services furnished through telehealth technologies, provided they are delivered by in-network providers.
