Expanding Compensation for Radiation Exposure Victims (Downwinders Parity Act)

This Act expands the scope of individuals eligible for financial compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). The changes include new communities that were previously ineligible for support because they reside in counties partially affected by radioactive fallout. Citizens in these newly included areas suffering from radiation-related illnesses can now apply for benefits, directly impacting their financial and health security.
Key points
Geographical Expansion: The Act includes all acreage in any county, all or part of which is located in the affected area, removing previous narrow territorial restrictions.
New Benefit Eligibility: Individuals residing in the newly included areas who became ill due to radiation exposure become eligible to receive financial compensation.
Outreach Requirement: The Attorney General must submit a report and conduct outreach efforts within 180 days to educate newly eligible persons about the benefits.
