This law speeds up and simplifies the process for parents to place security freezes on the credit reports of children under 16, significantly enhancing protection against identity theft. Credit reporting agencies must implement the freeze within 1 business day (online/phone) or 3 days (mail) free of charge. Furthermore, the Social Security Administration must provide instructions on how to request a freeze when issuing a child's SSN.
