Veteran Education Empowerment Act: Grants for Student Veteran Centers

This Act reauthorizes and improves a grant program enabling higher education institutions to establish and maintain dedicated Student Veteran Centers. These Centers will provide veterans returning to education with centralized support, benefits counseling, and assistance in transitioning from military to civilian life. The goal is to enhance academic success, reduce isolation, and ensure veterans and their families have access to critical resources, directly impacting their educational and career outcomes.
Key points
Reauthorization and improvement of the grant program (up to $500,000 over 4 years) for colleges to establish and operate Student Veteran Centers.
Centers must offer centralized services, including benefits counseling, assistance with academic and civilian transition, and mental health support (also for veterans' spouses and children).
Priority consideration for grants is given to institutions that hire veterans, offer separate orientations for student veterans, and partner with local veteran service organizations.
Institutions must present a sustainability plan demonstrating the Center will continue operating after the grant period ends.
