Grants for converting factory farms to climate-smart agriculture.

This law establishes grants for owners of large and medium factory farms (CAFOs) to help them transition to more environmentally friendly production methods. Farmers receiving support must permanently cease confining animals entirely indoors and instead invest in pasture access or switch to specialty/organic crops. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of intensive livestock farming and support sustainable food production.
Key points
Financial support (up to 90% of costs) for large farms willing to convert to climate-smart facilities.
A condition of receiving the grant is permanently stopping the practice of confining animals entirely indoors and providing them with pasture access or changing the farm profile to crop production.
Funds can be used for fencing, outdoor shelters, drought-resistant grasses, or equipment for organic and specialty crop production.
The law protects farmers from discrimination by meat processors (packers) for participating in the conversion program.
