Increased choice for patients and doctors in vision insurance plans.

This Act aims to increase freedom of choice for optometrists and patients covered by vision insurance plans. Insurance plans will be prohibited from restricting doctors' choice of laboratories, suppliers, or materials (such as lenses or frames). Additionally, agreements between doctors and insurance plans will be limited to a maximum of two years, giving doctors greater flexibility and negotiation power.
Key points
End of restrictions: Vision insurance plans cannot dictate to doctors which laboratories or suppliers they must use for materials (e.g., glasses, lenses).
Greater patient choice: Doctors will be able to offer a wider range of products and services, potentially leading to better fit and lower costs.
Shorter contracts: Initial agreements between doctors and insurance plans will be limited to a maximum of two years, increasing doctors' negotiating leverage.
State law precedence: State law concerning vision insurance and benefit plans retains exclusive jurisdiction and takes precedence over these federal amendments.
