Supporting states in climate assessment: data and analysis for public safety.

This Act requires the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to assist state governments in producing quadrennial State climate assessments. These assessments must analyze the effects of climate change on agriculture, health, transportation, and water resources within the state. This information will help citizens and local authorities better prepare for future weather and environmental challenges, potentially improving safety and infrastructure planning.
Key points
State governments can voluntarily produce detailed quadrennial climate assessments, receiving technical assistance and data from NOAA.
Assessments must include an analysis of climate change impacts on key sectors, such as public health, agriculture, energy, transportation, and land and water resources.
A climate assessment coordination officer will be designated at each National Weather Service office to facilitate information sharing and collaboration between federal and state governments on climate assessment.
